What’s Coming Up

Just registered for the Triangle Game Conference that is being held April 7th and 8th in Raleigh, North Carolina. There will be teaching sessions and a career fair. The career fair is what I am most looking forward to, since I will be graduating this December and would like to have a job afterwords.

Getting Prepared

To have the best presentation as a hire-able individual I will need to have somethings before I go to this conference.

  • Demo Reel
  • Online Portfolio
  • Portfolio Disc
  • Business Cards
  • Something to Set Me Apart

Demo Reel

This is a good way for me to demonstrate my key work in a short period of time. It will be good for my portfolio site, and the discs.

Online Portfolio

This is essential. I believe the best way for me to do this is to polish up my current site, to make displaying my portfolio foremost.

Portfolio Disc

I am thinking this would be a good thing to have a a career fair. So that I could hand it out to potential employers. Although I wish I could think of a better way to do this. I would essentially have my portfolio in disc form.

Business Cards

I am thinking this would be another good thing to have to be able to hand out. Something simple with contact info on it.

Something to Set Me Apart

I think I need something to set me apart from the rest of the students there looking for jobs. So I stick in people’s heads. Instead of just another face in polo, jeans, knows how to use PS, Maya, etc. I know I can produce good work, but what is going to convince someone to look at it? Hmmm, I will have to think about that one.

Final Thoughts

Lots of work to do. Pair that with a super busy semester. Fun stuff. Hopefully there will be enough of a slow down after mid-terms that I can get this stuff done.

I also need people’s opinions and suggestions. Am I missing something, is there something else I should be doing? Is there something I shouldn’t be doing? Something I could do better?

Thanks for all the help and support.
